For those who don't already know, Tako Toki is self-sufficiency taken to an almost obsessive extreme: not content with composing the music for their repertoire, the trio also makes all of their instruments (incidentally, from the waste of our wonderful consumerist civilization), records themselves, makes their own costumes, takes their own photos...
And what's new since "Hirsutes Farfelus," their first album, acclaimed by the masses and praised in the press both in France and internationally? A stable and tight-knit team, like the French national rugby team in their prime (Gerin/de la Sayette/Brémaud in the front row). Considerable progress in survivalist instrument making: their contraption produces increasingly refined sounds. A brand-new repertoire that plays with genre music; you may or may not recognize Balkan dances, a twisted samba, chamber Afrobeat, and other distinctly Asian influences.
"The band’s “survival luthiery” is as impressive as their musicianship, refining acoustic treasure from, as per the proverb, ‘another man’s trash’. " 8/10 album of the week - Songlines
"Full of fun and one of a kind, Un Dimanche á Monaco celebrates our universal love of rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic sounds and the varied, wonderful ways cultures have organized that love in what we call music. At the same time, playing on literal pieces of junk, Tako Tiko reminds us, as we contemplate many mall music shops filled with gleaming wood and brass instruments and countless unused guitars lying in closets, that musicians will always find a way to make music" - Rootsworld
"Avec leurs instruments et costumes fabriqués maison, Tako Toki cultivent un esprit DIY réjouissant. Un voyage sonore singulier entre Balkans, grooves afro-latins et influences asiatiques". - Alternative Radio
